AQUARIA
KLCCThe first commercial aquarium in Kuala Lumpur, Aquaria KLCC houses over 5,000 aquatic and marine creatures, from fishes to seahorses and corals to starfish. Look out for the large sand tiger sharks from South Africa, intimidating but actually a very docile species of shark; the Chitra soft-shelled turtle, which is the largest freshwater turtle in the world and in fact, a local Malaysian species; as well as the huge ‘Tapah’, a catfish known to eat monkeys that fall into the river waters. Some insect and reptile species are also on display in the aquarium.

NATIONAL MONUMENT
National  MonumentStanding 15.54 meters tall, this monument was constructed in 1966 and portrays seven men from the Malaysian Armed Forces holding the national flag, each symbolizing one of seven qualities: leadership, unity, strength, vigilance, suffering, courage and sacrifice. It is also one of the world’s largest free-standing bronze sculptures.

BUTTERFLY PARK
Containing more than 6,000 butterflies from 120 exotic species, approximately 15,000 plants were used to create this tropical rain forest within the city. Right in the center of the park is a uniquely designed hydro-pond built with a limestone path. At the exit, there is a souvenir shop selling local handicrafts and framed butterflies and beetles.

LAKE GARDENS (TAMAN TASIK PERDANA)
The idea for lake gardens was mooted by Alfred Venning, the British State Treasurer in the 1880s, after a long day of work, this is the perfect retreat for city folks. There are playgrounds, jogging tracks, exercise stations and rowing boats and even a bird park, a butterfly park, and flower gardens.

SRI MAHAMARIAMAN TEMPLE

ST MARY’S CATHEDRAL
Previously a small wooden building, it was a centre of worship for Anglicans in and around Kuala Lumpur. Later in 1893, realizing that the number of parishioners were steadily growing, a new cathedral was built and is still standing as a symbol of beauty today.

POLICE SIKH TEMPLE

Built on land donated by Yap Ah Loy, Sze Ya Temple is the oldest temple in Chinatown and is believed to have been built by craftsmen from southern China.

PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS
At a dizzying height of 452 meters, Petronas Twin Towers is a pair of 88-story buildings and the world’s tallest twin towers. It is built according to Islamic Architecture with geometric patterns. Specialties here are the double-deck sky-bridge between the 41st and 42nd floors and double-decker elevators. These amazing towers houses state-of-the-art concert hall—the Petronas Philharmonic Hall, home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra—as well as offices, shopping arcades, restaurants, and a science museum. Tickets are limited and issued daily on a first-come-first-served basis.

KUALA LUMPUR TOWER (MENARA KUALA LUMPUR)
Currently the fifth tallest in the world, this tower was built in 1995 with a height of 421 meters. The distinctive architectural features of this building is a dome-shaped arch at every doorway on the upper ground floor, decorated with glass pieces that gleams like giant diamonds. ISTANA BUDAYA

PARLIAMENT HOUSE
The brainchild of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, it symbolizes the democratic system that Malaysia practices. There are two sections here namely Dewan Negara, which is a three-storey building and Dewan Rakyat, an 18-storey tower. Visitors are required to adhere to the dress code and need to submit a letter prior to visiting the house.

MALAYSIA TOURISM CENTRE
Previously known as the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Hall, it was originally the mansion of Eu Tong Seng, a wealthy planter and tin-miner. It now houses a one-stop information centre for tourists. The complex also holds cultural performances and theatrical shows in the mini-auditorium.

TUN ABDUL RAZAK MEMORIAL
Built in October 1961, it was once the official residence of the late Tun Abdul Razak, father of development. It was later converted into a memorial to give credit to his contributions to the nation and its people. Displays include his speed boat, golf cart and private collection of walking sticks. If you would like a tour of this memorial, guided tours are available by appointment

P RAMLEE MEMORIAL
Malaysia’s foremost actor, director, singer and composer, P Ramlee is a household name in Malaysia. This memorial was set up to recognize his life and achievements to the entertainment world. Exhibits here include items from his movies and private collection and awards received that are carefully divided into 6 sections. An in house theatre screens his films and documentaries for visitors to understand more about the actor.

Located at the base of the Petronas Twin Towers, Galeri PETRONAS is owned and funded by Petrolium Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the national oil and gas corporation of Malaysia.
