Rawa Island
Rawa Island For the water sport lovers, this is the place to be as you can go snorkelling, skin and scuba diving, spear fishing and lobster hunting here. Rather than modern amneties, you will be welcomed by wooden chalets to give you a homely, village feel. Pemanggil Island
Pemanggil Island Pemanggil Island requires a 4 to 5 hours ride by boat from Mersing and is situated south of Tioman. Known as anglers’ paradise, you are able to fish for marlins and mackerels. It is also perfect spot snorkelers as it awes visitors with crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. The adventurous can look forward for a challenging rock climbing expedition and upon reaching the top, you can view immense beauty.

Sibu Island
Sibu Island Another island that has been gazetted as a marine park, this island is located 12km from mainland Johor. If you need a serene getaway, then this island awaits you. Gunung Ledang
Gunung Ledang Located at the Johor/Melaka border, Gunung Ledang is the highest mountain at 1,276m above sea level. It is one of the most climbed mountain in the country. Offering challenging trails, waterfalls, birdlife and also a variety of flora and fauna.

    Tanjung Emas Park

    Sungai Lebam Wetlands
    Sungai Lebam Wetlands flows with the rising tide of the South China Sea. When the tide is in, one can catch sea bass, groupers, snappers and sting rays.     Sungai Peradin

    Tanjung Piai-Johor National Park
    Located in the district of Pontian, Johor, this 926ha of National Park is a favorite spot for birdwatchers during the migratory season which falls around September and March. Visitors are able to enjoy a variety of flora and fauna e.g. mangrove crabs, beady-eyed mudskippers and crab-eating macaques.

    Endau-Rompin Johor National Park
    Covering an area of approximately 50,000 hectares of extensive flora and fauna, Endau Rompin is the second National Park declared in Malaysia. This park is home to the extinct Sumatran Rhinos, Primates e.g. the leaf monkey, the long-tail macaque and the white-handed gibbon. Other wild animals include tigers, leopards, elephants, and various types of deer and tapirs. There is also a variety of orchids, herbs, medicinal plants and trees.

    Rengit River
    Located in south of Desaru, Sungai Rengit has many villages by its bank. A place to be if you want to enjoy fresh seafood including crabs and lobsters. Visitors can also get a glimpse of the slow-paced fishing community. Apart from that, there are many Chinese temples here that are worth a visit and who organize Chinese opera shows all year around.

    Mount Lambak Recreational Forest
    Located 510m above sea level at the foothill of Mount Lambak, the Mount Lambak Recreational Forest is perfect for picnics, swimming and mountain-climbing. There is also a small children’s playground here. As the name has it, it has a variety of flora and fauna with waterfalls.

    Mount Pulai Recreational Forest

    Mount Arong Recreational Forest
    This recreational forest is located 17km from Mersing. Apart from the lush greenery surrounding you, there is a Forestry Museum which houses exhibits on a wide array of forest products.

    Mount Belumut Recreational Forest
    Standing at 1,004m above sea level, Gunung Belumut Recreational Forest derived its name from coutless slippery and slimy stones on the mountain. The popular attraction here is the Crown Rock which looks like a giant crown.

    Soga Perdana Recreational Forest
    This recreational forest is located at Compartment 5, Soga Reserve Forest and covers an area of 49.3ha. You can escape from the busy city life for a relaxing time here.






    Waterfalls & Hotsprings


    Puteri Waterfall
    Being Johor’s highest mountain, Gunung Ledang (Mount Ledang) stands at 1,267m above sea level. Despite the enchanting forest, this mountain is famed for the legendary Puteri Gunung Ledang and supernatural encounters. This mountain has one of the most beautiful waterfalls; Puteri Waterfalls.

    Labis Hot Spring
    Believed to have medical values to it, hot springs are a favourite spot for all ages who come to have a dip or just laze around. Visitors are also able to go hiking or picnicking here.

    Grisek Hot Spring
    A popular spot among locals but not very well known to visitors, this hotspring also has healing properties. It is located about 10km from Parit Jawa town in muar.




    Bird Watching


    Parit Jawa
    During the October-March migration season, visitors will be able to see migrating birds here. The most visible will be the Lesser Adjutants from family of Storks. At nights the storks roost in mangrove trees along the coast. Other species of birds that flock this place are the Terns, Kingfishers, Common Kingfisher Alcedo Atthis and the Black-capped Kingfisher.

    Rambah Beach
    During September and March, Rambah beach that is located near to Tanjung Piai is a popular spot for birdwatchers. Apart from bird watching, fishing and picknicking are also popular activities here.

    Penyabong Beach
    Penyabong beach is located about 36km from Mersing town. Previously, the beach was known as Pantai Pasir Lanun (Pirates’ Sandy Beach) as it was a hideout for pirates. Visitors can choose from a variety of activities e.g. boating, canoeing, fishing, camping and jungle trekking at the nearby forest or visit Malay villages here.

    Punggor Beach

    Tanjung Balau Beach
    Located about 70km from Kota Tinggi town, this is a popular beach that with a fishing village by the same name nearby. One must see venue here is the Tanjung Balau Fishermen Museum which showcases the life of a fisherman.

    Tanjung Leman Beach
    Located about 72km south of Mersing and is not easily accessible by the roadside. From here, you can go to the islands of Pulau Sibu and Sibu Tengah. As there are some beautiful corals around, you can go kayaking and snorkeling. You can also witness white hornbills flying above.

    Teluk Buih Beach

    State Secretariat Building
    This building is a blend of Renaissance style with an Anglo-Malay influence and is located on a hill called Bukit Timbalan. The square tower still can be seen from afar.

    Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim
    Combining colonial and Malay architecture with Saracenic design, Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim was constructed between 1936 and 1939 and currently houses the Menteri Besar’s (Chief Minister) office and State Assembly hall.

    Muar Historical Buildings
    For those who love architecture, Muar is a town you should not miss to visit. Some of them are;

    • Royal Customs & Excise building : built in 1909 and served as the railway terminal.
    • Muar High Court building: built in 1885 in a neo-classical architecture.
    • Sultan Abu Bakar building : houses the Muar Land Office and District Office.

    Segamat Railway Station
    This station is a transportation terminal that houses trains, taxis and buses. The station has many historical visits to it and is definitely worth a visit.

    The Royal Mausoleum
    Located at Jalan Mahmodiah, this is the royal burial grounds for Johor’s royalty. The mausoleum’s architecture is of a unique design and is a sight to behold by itself. Properly attired visitors are allowed to walk thorugh the grounds.

    Old Port of Batu Pahat
    Situated along Batu Pahat River, this old port was the venue for barter trading centuries ago. Visitors are now able to view remnants of the port now.

    Temenggung Daing Ibrahim Monument
    The Temenggung Daing Ibrahim Monument which was built in 1955 pays tribute to Dato’ Temenggung Daing Ibrahim. Temenggung Daing ruled Johor from 1852 to 1862.

    Johor Lama Fort
    Johor Lama (Old Johor) Fort was the venue Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah, one of the pioneer rulers of Johor used as a trading post for the region. It was attacked and destroyed by the Portuguese invaders aound 1587. The fort stands at an impressive 10-25 feet high and there are two tombs in the vicinity of the fort believed to be of Sultan Alauddin and his warriors’.

    Kubu Budak
    Strecthing 10 metres and built using red soil, this fort is the second most important historical fort after Kota Batu (Stone Fort). Both of these forts once controlled the security of Johor River and Old Johor River.

    Makam Village
    If you are in Kota Tinggi, visitors are highly recommended to visit Kota Tinggi Historical Centre to understand more regarding the history of the town.

    Kampung Makam is another place one should drop by while in Kota tinggi. Located about 2km from Kota Tinggi town, Kampung Makam or Tomb Village has several tombs surrounding the area with great historical significance. . The name was porbably derived from the presence of several tombs of historical significance. Some of the few are;

    • Sultan Mahmud’s tomb : He was the the 10th ruler of the Johor Sultanate who was murdered by his general, Laksamana Bentan at the young age of 24.
    • Makam Kuching Bertanduk : ‘Horned Cat’s Tomb’, reputedly of Sultan Mahmud’s favourite cat.
    • Tun Habab: Former Prime Minister under the Johor Sultanate.
    • Makam Tauhid: Fort-like stone walls resembling the remnants of a building or palace.

    Perigi Batu Pahat (Batu Pahat Well)
    Batu Pahat or ‘chiselled rock’ obtained its name from this much famed well, Perigi Batu Pahat which was dug by Siamese warriors in the 16th century.

    Tanjung Pengelih
    Once serving as the British Operation Centre by the British during the World War II, it housed underground hospital, barracks, tunnels, communications post, naval guns, anti-aircraft installation, command post, and artillery post. Tanjung Pengelih is also a popular entry point among visitors from Singapore.

    Jambatan Putus, Buloh Kasap
    Situated in Buloh Kasap, Jambatan Patah - broken bridge was demolished by British Armed Forces in January 1942 to prevent the Japanese from progressing to the peninsula. Currently, visitors are able to view the bridge from a wooden platform that has been built at the other end of the bridge.

    Tembioh Village
    Tembioh Village is famous for housing the tomb of Cik Siti Aminah, whose father was a Temenggung or Bendahara. What is interesting about Cik Siti Aminah is that she was married a total of 100 times. 99 husbands passed away as if there was a curse on her but she was married happily with her 100th husband.

    Sultan Abu Bakar Royal Museum
    This museum is still used for traditional royal and state ceremonial functions. You may find most of the things that are in the past and present rulers archive e.g. antiquities and furniture, silverware, crystalware, gold and silver jewelry, priceless vases, furniture, traditional Malay weapons, the State Regalia etc.

    Tanjung Balau Fishermen Museum
    Located five kilometres north of Desaru, this museum is built on a 9.7-hectare land. There are many items on display e.g. fishing traps, tackles, and various types of floats, traditional boats and rafts. For the more inquisitive, this museum also offers the do’s and don’t of fishermen.

    Bugis Museum
    Bugis are one of the many Malay groups from Sulawesi that settled here in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The museum has a display of items used by the Bugis community.

    Kota Tinggi Museum
    Kota Tinggi was the main administration centre for the Malaccan Sultanate lsince 1587. The artifacts here will explain how the Malaccan empire ruled Johor and the wars over Portuguese, Achehnese, Japanese, Dutch and etc. The museum not only displays items regarding the past but also present whereby visitors will be able to view information on the annual Kembara Mahkota Johor (Johor Crown Prince’s Royal Expedition).

    Pasir Gudang Kite Museum
    With the sole intention of preserving the Malaysian craft heritage, this museum is dedicated in showcasing traditional Malay kite known as the wau. There is a spectacular collection of wau’s in various colours, sizes and designs. Pasir Gudang is also the venue for International Kite Festival.
