Malaysia Currency
The Ringgit is the official currency of Malaysia or also kown as Ringgit Malaysia (RM). It is divided into Ringgit Malaysia (RM) 100 Hundred, RM50, RM10, RM5, RM1, 50Sen (cents), 20Sen and 10Sen.

Rates at 1130pm afternoon everyday are the best rates to quote for selected currencies when you’re checking at commercial bank or authorized money changer.

Exchanging Money
Foreign currency can be exchanged at any banks and authorized money changer.
Banking hours in most states in Malaysia is schedule from:

  • Monday – Friday: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
  • Saturday & Sunday: Closed

(Some banks and their branches open on Saturdays).

Except for two states, Kelantan & Terengganu which operated as schedule:

  • Sun – Wednesday: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.
  • Thursday: 9.30 am to 4.00 pm.
  • Friday/Saturday*/Public Holiday: Closed

Traveler’s Checks
Traveler’s checks can be used as cash in selected hotels, department stores, restaurant and shops. For more convenient when buying something it’s advisable to exchange for cash. Always keep the traveler’s check in your own safe box provided by hotels or hostels.

Credit Card
Visa, American Express, Master Card and others are used at shopping complex, hotels, department stores, large restaurants, and stores.

Plan ahead your travel and exchange money carefully. After exchanging your money, make sure that you check the total amount of money before you leave the counter.
